The article gives an overview of the problem of preparing students of general educational institutions for independent rational actions in tourist trips. The authors review the literary sources with the highlight of views of tourism specialists on the formation of skills and abilities for independent activities in tourism, the observation of students’ knowledge necessary for practical application in the tourist trips, knowledge of safety rules and safety of handling in different situations of human being in the natural environment; the content of separate concepts and terms of tourism is disclosed and the essence of explanation of tourism specialists on forms and types of tourism is discussed. Classification and refinement of the purpose and objectives of tourist trips reveals the prospect of determining and developing the directions of training of students of general educational institutions for physical activity by means of tourism. The aspects mentioned in the article give the authors the basis for the theoretical substantiation of the following stages of methodical features of preparation of schoolchildren for tourist trips of various forms and types. The authors emphasize that one of the many ways of solving problems of low motivational level of children to exercise can be tourism: tourism as physical recreation and sports tourism in all traditional forms and species. Tourist activity is able to mobilize personal natural biological and psychological resources of a person, to encourage it to actively engage in physical activity in order to ensure their own vital activity, to mobilize the development of cognitive activity. The application of the theoretical and methodological basis with the justification of the features and characteristics of educational processes will make possible to solve the problems of thorough preparation of students for tourist trips, the objective vision of the structure of such training, the conditions and factors of influence on the formation of the necessary skills and abilities.
