The article substantiates the effectiveness of short modular basketball training sessions in the system of physical education of university students under conditions of limited academic time. The purpose of the study was to justify the feasibility of implementing a modular training approach and to determine its impact on students’ physical, technical-tactical, coordination preparedness, and motivation for physical activity. The pedagogical experiment was conducted over one academic semester and involved 48 first- and second-year students specializing in basketball at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.” The participants were divided into a control group and an experimental group, each consisting of 24 students. Both groups attended physical education classes once per week; however, the experimental group trained according to a specially designed short modular basketball training program, while the control group followed a traditional instructional approach. The research methodology included analysis of scientific and methodological literature, pedagogical observation, pedagogical testing, questionnaires to assess students’ motivation, and methods of mathematical statistics. The modular training structure integrated preparatory, targeted, and game-based modules within a single session, allowing for more rational use of training time and concentration of pedagogical influence. The results demonstrated statistically significant improvements in the experimental group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Students in the experimental group showed greater progress in shooting accuracy, execution speed of technical actions, reduction of technical-tactical errors, game activity, coordination abilities, and motivation for physical education classes. The most pronounced improvements ranged from 20% to 35%, despite the limited frequency of training sessions. The study confirms that short modular basketball training sessions represent an effective and pedagogically justified model for optimizing physical education classes in higher education institutions. The findings may be useful for physical education instructors and coaches seeking efficient training models under constrained educational conditions. Future research perspectives include examining different training frequencies, longer intervention periods, and individualized modular adaptations.
