This article provides a theoretical analysis of the pedagogical potential of classical and folk-stage dance in the system of physical education for higher education students. The study is grounded in contemporary scientific approaches to choreographic pedagogy, physical education theory, and the competence-based paradigm of higher education. Particular attention is paid to the role of dance disciplines as an integrative educational tool that combines artistic, physical, and health-preserving functions. The research demonstrates that classical dance serves as a fundamental component of choreographic training, ensuring the systematic development of posture, muscular strength, flexibility, endurance, and motor coordination. Its structured exercise system (barre and center work) contributes to the formation of precise body alignment, movement control, and sustained physical load tolerance. Classical dance is therefore considered a methodological basis for improving students’ overall physical preparedness and motor discipline. Folk-stage dance, in turn, is characterized by dynamic, expressive, and culturally embedded movement patterns that significantly enhance agility, speed, and coordination. Its movement vocabulary is based on natural motor actions, jumps, rhythmic steps, and directional changes, which actively engage different muscle groups and promote functional physical development. In addition, folk-stage dance plays an important educational role in strengthening cultural identity, emotional expressiveness, and group interaction among students. The integration of classical and folk-stage dance within higher education curricula is shown to create favorable conditions for the comprehensive development of physical qualities. Combined training approaches allow for balanced improvement of strength, flexibility, endurance, coordination, and speed, ensuring a holistic impact on students’ physical fitness. Moreover, dance-based activities contribute to reducing sedentary behavior and improving psycho-emotional well-being, which is particularly relevant in the context of modern educational challenges.
