Translating the Russo-Ukrainian War

Since 24 February 2022, translation has become one of the key means by which arguments, testimonies, and cultural analyses about Ukraine are carried across linguistic borders. In wartime, translation shapes how responsibility is identified, how political proposals are evaluated, and how the Ukrainian experience is understood by domestic and foreign readers. This paper examines translation in that context through the experience of a translation circle at Mykhailo Dragomanov State University of Ukraine in Kyiv and through the author’s own professional practice. It approaches translation as both an educational practice and a form of cultural solidarity, in line with research on translation in conflict, activism, and collaborative translator education.
