Cornus officinalis Sieb. et Zucc. (medicinal cornel, Japanese cornel) is a highly valuable fruit, medicinal, and ornamental plant of East Asian origin that has been
studied at the M. M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for nearly 30 years. The article summarizes the introduction and adaptation experience of this species under the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest Steppe of Ukraine and assesses its prospects for cultivation. Morphological descriptors, bioecological characteristics, biochemical composition of fruits and leaves, and the basics of cultivation are described. The species are recommended for introduction into Ukrainian horticulture as a profitable low-maintenance crop suitable for organic production.
