Дисертаційне дослідження присвячене трансформаційним процесам у Церкві адвентистів сьомого дня (ЦАСД) в Україні в період незалежності (1991–2024 рр.). На сучасному етапі розвитку релігійної сфери України ЦАСД репрезентує одну з активних меншин серед протестантських конфесій, інтегровану в суспільні, культурні та гуманітарні процеси. У фокусі дисертаційного аналізу представлено ключові етапи трансформації українського адвентизму в період незалежності. Особливу увагу зосереджено на переході ЦАСД від напівзакритого типу релігійності до більш відкритої моделі, що відбувалася зі збереженням конфесійної ідентичності та богословських засад, але із поступовим урахуванням патріотичної позиції в умовах боротьби України за незалежність. Така трансформація відбувалася на тлі традиційної для адвентизму моделі позаполітикою, що зумовлювало внутрішній діалог щодо меж допустимого залучення до публічного і національного дискурсів. Дослідження охоплює зміни богословської самоінтерпретації, еволюцію форм і практик соціального служіння, трансформацію комунікаційних стратегій, а також виявляє особливості функціонування Церкви адвентистів сьомого дня в умовах суспільно-політичних криз, зокрема під час Революції Гідності та в контексті повномасштабної збройної агресії Російської Федерації проти України. Наукова новизна одержаних результатів, зумовлена комплексним підходом та багатогранністю поставлених завдань, полягає у тому, що в дисертації вперше у вітчизняному релігієзнавстві проведено всебічне дослідження трансформаційних процесів, що відбулись у Церкві Адвентистів Сьомого Дня в період незалежної України. Дисертаційне дослідження системно розкриває історичний характер, напрям і динаміку трансформаційних процесів у Церкві Адвентистів Сьомого Дня (ЦАСД) в суспільно-культурному розвитку суверенної України (1991-2024 роки), з особливим акцентом на період після 24 лютого 2022 року. Виявлено, що ЦАСД пройшла шлях від маловідомої конфесії до активного та відповідального гравця громадянського суспільства, значно змінивши свій імідж та внутрішню ідентичність. Це призвело до становлення партнерської взаємодії Церкви АСД з державними та громадськими структурами, а також до різнопланової адаптації релігійних переконань і практик у відповідь на політичні, соціальні та культурні трансформації. Церква адвентистів сьомого дня в Україні пройшла еволюційний шлях від периферійної гілки радянського протестантизму до самостійної, соціально активної та контекстуалізованої релігійної спільноти. Зберігаючи власну конфесійну ідентичність, Церква сформувала специфічну, внутрішньо мотивовану модель адаптації до умов української державності, що включає реагування на масштабні суспільно-політичні трансформації, зокрема на виклики, спричинені Революцією Гідності, війною на сході України та повномасштабною агресією Російської Федерації. Така адаптація реалізується не шляхом політичної активізації, а через посилення соціального служіння, стратегій гуманітарної допомоги, медіакомунікації та переосмислення громадянської відповідальності в межах адвентистської богословської парадигми.
The dissertation research is devoted to the transformational processes within the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA Church) in Ukraine during the period of national independence (1991–2024). At the current stage of Ukraine’s religious development, the SDA Church represents one of the active minorities among Protestant denominations, integrated into the country’s social, cultural, and humanitarian spheres. The relevance of the study stems from the absence of a comprehensive religious studies analysis of the evolutionary changes that have occurred within this denomination under conditions of Ukrainian sovereignty – particularly with regard to its theological discourse, social engagement, and cultural adaptation in response to contemporary challenges. For the first time, a systematized body of source material has been introduced into academic circulation, illuminating the multifaceted activities of the SDA Church in the fields of education, charitable work, media communication, and its functioning under conditions of military aggression and socio-political instability that have persisted since 2014. The dissertation explores the key stages in the transformation of Ukrainian Adventism during the independence period. Particular attention is given to the SDA Church’s transition from a semi-closed model of religiosity to a more open and contextually engaged form – one that has maintained its confessional identity and theological foundations while gradually incorporating patriotic discourse amid Ukraine’s ongoing struggle for sovereignty. This transformation has unfolded against the backdrop of Adventism’s traditionally apolitical stance, prompting internal dialogue on the boundaries of permissible engagement in public and national discourse. The study examines changes in theological self-understanding, the evolution of social ministry practices, the transformation of communication strategies, and highlights the distinctive features of the Church’s functioning in the context of sociopolitical crises – particularly during the Revolution of Dignity and the full-scale military invasion by the Russian Federation. The scientific novelty of the results obtained, due to the comprehensive approach and multifaceted nature of the tasks set, lies in the fact that the dissertation is the first in domestic religious studies to conduct a comprehensive study of the transformational processes that took place in the Seventh-day Adventist Church during the period of independent Ukraine. The dissertation study systematically reveals the historical nature, direction and dynamics of transformational processes in the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA) in the socio-cultural development of sovereign Ukraine (1991-2024), with a special emphasis on the period after February 24, 2022. It is revealed that the SDA Church has gone from a little-known denomination to an active and responsible player in civil society, significantly changing its image and internal identity. This has led to the establishment of partnership between the SDA Church and state and public structures, as well as to the diverse adaptation of religious beliefs and practices in response to political, social and cultural transformations. Establishing that the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Ukraine has undergone an evolutionary journey from a peripheral branch of Soviet Protestantism to an autonomous, socially engaged, and contextually adapted religious community. While preserving its confessional identity, the Church has developed a specific, internally driven model of adaptation to Ukrainian statehood—one that includes responses to profound socio-political transformations, particularly those brought about by the Revolution of Dignity, the war in Eastern Ukraine, and the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation. This adaptation has manifested not through political activism, but through enhanced social ministry, humanitarian strategies, media communication, and a reimagining of civic responsibility within the Adventist theological paradigm.
