Реакція міського населення Правобережної України на початок Першої світової війни: спроба ретроспективи

Висвітлено суспільні настрої в містах Правобережної України на
початку Першої світової війни. На підставі аналізу вітчизняної історіографії
радянського та сучасного періоду підкреслено, що порушена автором
проблема є малодослідженою та суспільно і науково значимою і тому
потребує переосмислення й сучасної наукової інтерпретації. Обрані автором
географічні межі дослідження зумовлені важливим стратегічним значенням
Правобережної України, одна частина якої за воєнної доби опинилася у
прифронтовій зоні, а друга – районом тилового забезпечення російських
армій на Південно–Західному фронті. Автором встановлено, що настрої
населення міст визначалися тісним поєднанням почуттів ейфорії і страху,
й інтенсивність останнього залежала від розташування населеного пункту щодо лінії фронту, а їхнє загострення пов’язано було з участю в масових
заходах: мобілізації, патріотичних маніфестаціях, молебнях тощо.

The article highlights public sentiments in the towns of Right–Bank Ukraine at
the beginning of the First World War. Based on the analysis of Soviet historiography
of the Soviet and modern period, it is emphasized that the problem raised by
the author is little studied, during the existence of the USSR it was the object of
manipulation and, therefore, needs rethinking and modern scientific interpretation.
The geographic scope of the researches chosen by the author is due to the important
strategic importance of the Right–Bank Ukraine, one part of which appeared in
the front–line zone in wartime, and the other – by the logistics support area of the
Russian armies on the South–Western Front. It was established that the sentiments
of the population of towns was determined by a close combination of feelings
of euphoria and fear, and the intensity of the latter depended on the location of
the settlement with respect to the front line. Both these feelings were aggravated
during participation in mass events – mobilization, patriotic demonstrations, prayer
services, etc.
